This morning we drove up to Oxnard to support the Living Word Church of Oxnard Car Show. We always enjoy ourselves in Ventura County and today was no different. Thanks to Peter Cruz from Techniques CC Los Angeles for the invite.

Joey from USO CC brought his Impala out and took home a trophy. Well deserved!

As contributors to print media publications, Stephanie & I are proponents of printed materials. Newspapers, magazines, flyers and other types of printed media are suffering because of the use of electronic types of media. Don’t get me wrong, it is very cool to see magazines or newspapers configured for viewing on an iPhone or iPad but nothing beats holding a well executed piece of printed matter like the latest issue of Lowrider Magazine.

Printed media is suffering worldwide but corporate and independent publishers are still fighting the fight and producing printed materials. Last night my friend Oryu who published 38 Timez Magazine in Japan came by the house to drop off his latest special edition book called “Fallen Angels”. The first two books “City of Angels” and “Lost Angels” are still highly sought after books and hard to come by. I’ve mentioned Oryu and his body of work a few times on here before because of the great care he takes producing his magazine and book series.

After unwrapping the plastic cover and holding the book in my hands, I almost did not want to open it because it is so nice. The cover art by Mike Pickel is raised so it is a better than average cover which in my opinion is suitable for framing. Once you open the book, it is filled with a lot of great content. Although I cannot read Japanese, the images throughout the book are outstanding and the content has just about something for everyone. Art, cars, tattoos, history and much more. Again, the content would probably look great on a computer monitor, mobile phone or tablet but nothing beats holding a well executed piece of printed media.

In this third edition I was fortunate to have a few of my photographs included. I’d like to thank Oryu again for the opportunity. Here is one of the photos featured.

Ok, now the question everyone will probably ask is where and how can you get the books. The books and the magazine are released in Japan but some on occasion do make it to the United States. I have seen them for sale on EBAY and layitlow.com. I know Greenspans has carried them but I do not know if they are still available there. I hope you are able to get your hands on a copy of the “Fallen Angels” book or the first two. You will not be disappointed. Finally, remember to support print media. Buy and newspaper, magazine or a book on your way home from work today.

Mando from Brown Magic Paint Co out of Chicago Illinois & I follow each other on Instagram. He does some excellent art work and has been applying some of it to iPhone and iPad cases. I saw an iPad case he did and bought it from him. I also commissioned him to customize an iPhone case for Stephanie. I thought it would be a unique Valentine’s Day gift for her. I had been getting updates from Mando and Dottie on the progress of the cases and got an email that they shipped over the weekend. They arrived today. I was blown away when I opened the package. Not only did they items I ordered arrive, but an extra iPhone case and a tin arrived as well! Each item is unique and personalized and looks even better in person!. As many of you know Greenspan’s is the place to buy your Pendeltons, Charlie Browns, Winos, and any classic clothing. While we were at the Grand National Show a couple of weeks back, we ran into Josh Greenspan from Greenspan’s Clothing Store. The store had a booth in the Suede Palace full of some great product. After talking with Josh for a bit he handed me a varsity jacket they had just made. The show was the first time it was going to be available and he wanted me to check it out. I was immediately impressed. Not only was it stylish it was lightweight and could be worn year round which is perfect for the Southern California climate. This weekend we set up two shoots for Saturday. Rather than shoot once on Saturday and once on Sunday we decided to maximize the use of the location we had secured. We shot Big Al’s Harley and Marco from One Bad Creation Car Club 72 Impala with Rosa Valdez.

Event Coverage ~ 2012 Grand National Roadster Show ~ Sunday

Sunday morning we headed straight to building four to shoot the cars in there before the crowds were let in. There was a lot of great contenders for the America’s Most Beautiful Roadster (AMBR) award and a lot of great booth cars. We saved this building for the last day so we could spend ample time in there.

We ran into our Tribal Gear friends ~ Johnny, Bobby, and Issac.

This Roadster has been driven a few miles!

Mark & Steven from Traffic CC came to hang out for the day. Don’t forget the Traffic Show is March 18th!

We had not made it over to the Mexican Village part of the fairgrounds all weekend so we walked over on Sunday afternoon and saw this beauty.

Saturday we started our day in the Suede Palace at GNRS. Alex & Celeste do a great job every year with the Suede Palace. This year was no exception.

I happen to run into photographer Ed Fox. This is his Double Cab VW Bus. One of my favorites of the show.

Jose Barba from Premier CC had his 63 Impala “El Amo” out for the afternoon.

The outside & grass area of the fairgrounds had some great vehicles parked around it during the day.
